Jewel's WINsday Journal and Updates 9/18/2024

Updated: Sep 24

The recent passing of Frankie Beverly (Maze) reminds us of his musical legacy in a soulful way over the years which taught us ... "life brings joy and pain, sunshine and rain." Some people try to "insulate" themselves from life's tribulations and proceed through their days as if somehow they are guaranteed another day.

Shift happens! You and I can experience an "emotional earthquake" when illness, divorce, a car accident, surgery, loss of a loved one, a lay off or "that phone call" that feels like a punch in the stomach happens.

Life suddenly becomes scary and unpredictable, and those feelings can be paralyzing.

Be very careful not to allow yourself to slip into a state of apathy, anger, numbness, fear and procrastination.  Shift happens and it's critical to know that God is the lifter of our heads.  You may not feel like doing what you need to do today.  You may be frozen feeling afraid, tired, angry, sad, or worried.  Motivate yourself!  Make up your mind today that you will get up.

The word motivation is about movement, not an attitude or feeling.  You are not always going to feel like doing your reading, chores, studying, paperwork, exercise, research, phone calls or go to your job.  Once you start moving, your mind and attitude are rejuvenated.  It is in the doing...the action...the momentum of steps you take that will renew your motivation.  You can't wait until you feel optimistic, excited, or empowered.  The feeling will come as a result of your action in spite of your circumstances. Consistent action will shake you from the state of apathy, procrastination, or fear.
