5. I will make choices today that my future self will thank me for.
I know what I need to do. Drink more water, move my body, watch my spending, and get some rest. Sometimes I need to stop taking care of everybody else and put myself on the list. And yes, put that phone down and go to bed! I can't keep neglecting myself and expect to feel my best.
6. I will stop making everything bigger than it needs to be.
Everything doesn't need a reaction, a family meeting, or three phone calls to my friends. Plans change. People have bad days. ShiFt happens. I don't need to turn every inconvenience into a crisis or borrow trouble from tomorrow.
7. Some family patterns need to stop with me.
I love my family, but I've learned that suffering in silence isn't always strength, and tolerating mistreatment isn't loyalty. I can honor Big Mama and other family members and still do things differently. Just because something runs in the family doesn't mean it has to keep running through me.
8. Whatever I keep practicing, I keep getting better at.
If I keep worrying, complaining, and replaying old hurts, I'll become an expert at it. Some of us already have a Ph.D. in worrying! I'd rather practice gratitude, patience, speaking up, letting go, and laughing more. Progress takes practice.
A Reminder to Tell Yourself
At this stage of my life, I don't want to keep fighting the same battles in my mind or carrying everybody's problems. I've survived too much and learned too much to keep getting in my own way. And when I slip into an old habit, I can catch myself, correct myself, and begin again.
