Maurice Kitchen is a passionate, award-winning playwright and director whose work celebrates and amplifies the African American narrative in media. In theatre, Kitchen earned Best Director honors from the prestigious Hollywood/Beverly Hills NAACP Theater Awards Committee for Dark Legends in Blood, a murder mystery musical comedy revue he wrote, produced, and directed. Twice nominated for the NAACP Image Award in the Producer’s Theatrical Category, he was recognized for VOICES, a broadway caliber stage musical, he wrote and directed, and The Jeffersons, Live On Stage, co-produced with Dorian and Marla Gibbs, featuring the original cast of Norman Lear’s iconic television series.

In 2022, Kitchen captivated audiences nationwide with The Return, a groundbreaking radio-theatre production imagining a modern-day dialogue between Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The commercial-free performance, presented as a special event on Tavis Smiley's nationally syndicated show, As the founder and Artistic Director of the internationally acclaimed a cappella group Street Corner Renaissance, Kitchen has further demonstrated his creative

versatility. The group has been featured in two PBS specials, a documentary, and NBC’s The Sing-Off.
