Don’t put your happiness on layaway until certain conditions are met. Hope is open-handed, it allows space for possibilities. Expectation demands a specific outcome. The vacation may have flaws and hiccups. The interview or audition may not hire you. Your spouse, child, parent, friend or co-worker may bring personality clashes and fall short of your expectations. The event you are planning (i.e. party, celebration, wedding, conference, book signing, family reunion, etc.) could have some issues you were not expecting. After all of your effort, you may fall short of your financial goals...shiFt happens. Expectations can be silent thieves of your peace. Let go of rigid timelines and exact scripts. When you grip too tightly, you set yourself up for frustration. You will have less stress and aggravation when you remember not everyone will meet you at the level you give, and not every moment will unfold the way you pictured it. This doesn’t mean you stop loving, showing up, or dreaming. It means you release the grip, stay open, and let life surprise you. Peace comes when you trade control for trust.
